About the programme

On the Composer Jazz/Pop program, you have two main subjects. One is the teaching of your instrument and the other is composition, in which theoretical knowledge is combined with practical experience and throughout the program. As part of your work with your two majors, you will compose and perform larger compositions during your two years at the program.

You will work with different composition techniques in both jazz/pop and modern classical music, as well as orchestration, instrumentation and performance. You will be introduced to important composers and their characteristics and be able to reflect on your own and others' compositions and place them in a larger context.

Schedule

Your schedule will vary from week to week throughout the year. Some subjects are only available for limited periods during the year, while other subjects are available throughout the year. In addition to the scheduled classes, you should plan to set aside time for practicing and for unscheduled study activities such as masterclasses, workshops and concerts. When you do not have scheduled classes, you can reserve available rooms for practicing alone or with other students.

FAQ

Typical questions and practical info

Conservatory education in Denmark consists of a 3-year bachelor's degree, a 2-year master's degree and an additional 2-year soloist program.

The master's programs require that you have passed a bachelor's degree from a Danish or foreign music conservatory - or have equivalent qualifications.

You can generally apply regardless of which instrument you play.

For the entrance exams, you will need to demonstrate your skills as a musician and composer.
