Classical musician/singer in Odense is an education that focuses on you and your instrument in order to train you for a life as a professional musician/singer in orchestras, ensembles, as a soloist or as a teacher.

About the programme

Classical musician/singer in Odense is a programme that focuses on your artistic personality through teaching in e.g. chamber music/ensemble singing, interdisciplinary collaborative projects, basic repertoire knowledge, stage performance, etc.

During the programme, you will immerse yourself in classical music and the teaching will focus on your instrument/voice. In addition, you will study theoretical subjects that give you an understanding of the foundations of music. You will also take music education subjects where you will learn how to educate and communicate music, and you will also learn how to create and launch your own projects through the entrepreneurship subjects.

In addition to the scheduled classes, you will participate in master classes with internationally recognized musicians, interdisciplinary focus weeks, our two annual festivals, study trips and much more.

During your studies, you will have ample opportunities to play concerts and participate in large and small musical collaborations in various ensembles and orchestras.

In the Master's program, you will acquire specialized knowledge, skills and competencies so you can perform as a musician at the highest level.
In addition to focusing on main instrument teaching and chamber music, the master's program also focuses on instrumental pedagogy teaching with independent teaching in didactics, psychology and theoretical pedagogy.

You will also be educated in PR and administration, where you will learn about fundraising, press, financial management, VAT/tax, copyright, agreements and contracts.

Schedule
Your schedule will vary from week to week throughout the year. Some subjects are only available for limited periods during the year, while other subjects are available throughout the year. In addition to the scheduled classes, you should plan to set aside time for practicing and for study activities that are not scheduled, such as masterclasses, workshops and concerts. When you don't have scheduled classes, you can reserve available rooms for practicing alone or with other students.

Typical questions and practical info

Conservatory education in Denmark consists of a 3-year bachelor's degree, a 2-year master's degree and an additional 2-year soloist program.

The master's programs require that you have passed a bachelor's degree from a Danish or foreign music conservatory - or have equivalent qualifications.

You can generally apply regardless of which instrument you play.

The entrance exams require you to demonstrate your skills on your main instrument/vocal and test you in a number of general subjects such as theory and ear training.

All scheduled classes are generally held at SDMK in Odense between 8 am and 6 pm. However, in connection with orchestra projects, masterclasses and other extraordinary teaching, classes may be held outside these hours.
